Accountable buys Kentucky firm

Accountable Healthcare Staffing Inc. acquired Louisville, Ky.-based Horizons Medical Staffing and Hopewell Healthcare. Horizons targets local contract staffing and per diem opportunities while its sister brand, Hopewell, provides travel nurse staffing. The two companies share a common overhead and management.

The transaction closed Oct. 16; terms were not disclosed.

Horizons Medical Staffing and Hopewell Healthcare brands will remain in the marketplace during a transition period, but will eventually rebrand to Accountable. Horizons President Jeff Perius will become branch manager, responsible for the Louisville operations.

The acquisition provides Accountable with immediate expansion into further contract opportunities in Kentucky, Indiana and Tennessee.

“Horizons is both a growing and well-managed company that meshes nicely with our national branch footprint,” said Accountable President and CEO Kevin Little. “Horizons also opens a new market region for Accountable. I am excited to welcome the Horizons’ team to the Accountable family.”

This is Accountable’s 13th acquisition since launching in 2012, and follows the December 2014 acquisition of Wellesley, Mass.-based Sagent Healthstaff LLC.

“Accountable has looked at many deals since our Sagent acquisition; we have become increasingly picky as to which targets we will open our wallet for,” said Eddie Albert, executive VP, investor relations and director of M&A at Accountable. “Horizons fits the bill being a well-managed and growing contract-based business. Accountable continues to focus in that direction.”

Accountable has more than 25 locations and ranks No. 15 on Staffing Industry Analysts’ list of largest healthcare staffing firms in the US.
