New Hampshire posted the lowest jobless rate among all states in December with an unemployment rate of 2.6%, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Massachusetts and South Dakota followed at 2.8% each.

Alaska posted the highest jobless rate among states at 6.7%. It was followed by New Mexico with an unemployment rate of 6.6%

Massachusetts posted the largest year-over-year decline in its unemployment rate in December, falling to 2.8% from 4.9% a year ago.

The national unemployment rate in December was 4.7%, little changed from November but 0.3 percentage point lower than in December 2015.
