Nevada, West Virginia post highest jobless rates in 2015

Nevada and West Virginia posted the highest annual average unemployment rates among all states in 2015 at 6.7% each, according to data released today by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. New Mexico followed at 6.6%, while California and Mississippi both had rates of 6.5%.

The District of Columbia had a rate of 6.9%.

North Dakota posted the lowest unemployment rate in 2015 at 2.7%, followed by Nebraska and South Dakota at 3.0% and 3.1%, respectively.

Forty-seven states and the District of Columbia had annual average unemployment rate decreases in 2015 from 2014, two states had increases, and one state had no change.

The national jobless rate fell by 0.9 percentage point from the prior year to 5.3%.
