List ranks largest US industrial staffing firms by revenue

July 20, 2016

TrueBlue Inc. (NYSE: TBI) ranked as the largest US industrial staffing firm in terms of industrial temporary staffing revenue, according to Staffing Industry Analysts’ 2016 list of largest US industrial staffing firms. EmployBridge Holding Company and Express Employment Professionals rank second and third, respectively.

“Driven by the steady stream of large acquisitions in recent years, the industrial segment has shown a more pronounced trend of market share consolidation than in any of the other skill segments of the staffing industry,” Research Manager Timothy Landhuis said. “The 15 largest industrial staffing firms held 58% of the market last year, compared with 43% in 2007. This suggests that economies of scale are playing an increasingly important role in the competition between industrial staffing suppliers.”

The list is based on last year’s industrial temporary staffing revenue in the US. TrueBlue’s revenue included its acquisition of SIMOS Insourcing Solutions in the fourth quarter, and EmployBridge’s revenue reflected revenue of both EmployBridge and The Select Family of Staffing Companies, which combined in the first quarter of 2015.

The list includes 33 staffing firms with more than $100 million in US industrial temporary staffing revenue in 2015. Combined, these firms generated $22.0 billion in such revenue, accounting for 67% of the market, according to Staffing Industry Analysts estimates.

The companies are ranked by revenue, according to industry custom. However, this ranking should not be taken to imply that a firm with a higher rank provides better service or more value to its shareholders.

The five largest industrial staffing firms in the US by estimated 2015 US industrial temporary staffing revenue are:

  1. TrueBlue: $2.65 billion, 8% market share
  2. EmployBridge Holding Company: $2.62 billion, 8% market share
  3. Express Employment Professionals: $2.26 billion, 7% market share
  4. Aerotek (Allegis Group): $1.74 billion, 5% market share
  5. Manpower: $1.69 billion, 5% market share
