The US Internal Revenue Service on Nov. 18 extended the due date for furnishing forms to employees and individuals covered under the Affordable Care Act. The notice extends the due date for furnishing the 2016 Form 1095-B and the 2016 Form 1095-C to March 2, 2017 from Jan. 31, 2017.
The deadline for filing reports to the IRS remains Feb. 28, 2017 — or March 31, 2017, if filing electronically.
Employers or other coverage providers that do not comply with the due dates for furnishing the forms are subject to penalties, according to the IRS. However, the IRS stated employers and other coverage providers that do not meet the relevant due dates should still furnish and file; The IRS will take such furnishing and filing will be taken into consideration when determining whether to abate penalties for reasonable cause.
