Leading index points to slow expansion

The Conference Board's U.S. leading economic index released today rose 0.1% in July to a level of 109.8. July's gain follows a 0.3% decline in June and 0.5% increase in May.

"The indicators point to a slow expansion through the end of the year," said Ken Goldstein, economist at The Conference Board....

Staffing firm to pay $35,000 in EEOC settlement

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission reported that Axiom Staffing Group of Virginia Inc. will pay $35,000 to settle a disability discrimination lawsuit.

Canadian staffing index falls one point

The Canadian staffing index, a measure of temporary staffing in Canada, fell one point to a reading of 85 in July following six months of growth, the Association of Canadian Search, Employment and Staffing Services (ACSESS) announced. The index's benchmark of 100 was set in July 2008.

Canadian employment insurance rises 1%

The number of people receiving Canadian employment insurance benefits rose to 691,600 in June, up 1.2% from May, Statistics Canada reported today.
