Some government contract workers may be without pay even after shutdown ends

January 03, 2019

Some government contract workers may not be paid because of the government shutdown even after it ends, Business Insider reported. And while Congress has passed resolutions after previous government shutdowns providing back pay to federal workers, contractors might not be affected by that, according to ABC News.

Some workers have taken to Twitter to vent their concerns under the hashtag #shutdownstories.

On the flip side, the Federal Times reported some companies are still required to provide contract workers to the federal government — which they must pay — during the shutdown while the provider of the workers is not being paid, possibly causing cash-flow difficulties.

Another effect of the shutdown is the suspension of E-Verify services. For more on this, go to the E-Verify website.
