Growth Slows in U.S. Staffing Prices

Prices paid for staffing services in the U.S. rose in February when compared to the same month last year, but the increase was the lowest since March 2012, according to data released last week by the U.S. Bureau of Labor statistics.

The producer price index for the “employment services” industry rose 0.4 percent on a year-over-year basis in February, according to data that was not seasonally adjusted. That compares with increases of 0.8 percent in both January and February and an increase of 1.1 percent in November

The employment services industry includes employment placement agencies, temporary help services, executive search services and professional employer organizations.

Producer price indexes track the change in price received by service producers over time. The change in price is measured from the perspective of the seller, in this case staffing firms. Employment services is just one industry tracked by the producer price indexes.
