Taiwan – Seasonally adjusted unemployment rate improves to 3.67% in February, total employment dip

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Taiwan fell by 0.06% in February 2021 to a rate of 3.67% when compared to the same period in the previous year, according to the latest manpower survey results from Directorate General Budget, Accounting and Statistics.

When compared to the previous month, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell by 0.03% in February 2021.

On a non-seasonally adjusted basis, the jobless rate increased by 0.04% over the month and declined by 0.05% over the year.

The total number of unemployed persons stood at 434,000 in February. It increased by 4,000 (+0.98%) but decreased by 9,000 (-1.94%) from the previous month and that of the previous year, respectively.

Total employment decreased month-on-month by 16,000 (-0.14%) in February to 11,458,000. It also decreased by 56,000 (-0.49%) when compared with that of the previous year.

Compared with the same period of the previous year, employment in agriculture and the good-producing sector decreased by 9,000 (-1.61%) and 12,000 (-0.29%). On the other hand, the services-providing sector increased by 12,000(+0.17%) in February.

Meanwhile, Taiwan’s labour force participation rate rose by 0.06% from that of the previous year to a total rate of 59.17%.
