Taiwan – Seasonally adjusted unemployment rate improves to 3.64% in September, labour force participation rate up slightly

Taiwan’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 3.64% in September 2022 from 3.92% in September 2021, according to data from the Directorate General of Budget Accounting and Statistics.

When compared to the previous month, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate declined by 0.03% to 3.64%.

On a non-seasonally adjusted basis, the unemployment rate declined over the month by 0.13% to 3.66% in September 2022. Compared with that of the previous year, the unemployment rate declined by 0.30% in September.

The number of unemployed persons stood at 433,000 in September, a decrease of 16,000 (-3.50%) and 38,000 (-8.01%) from the previous month and that of the previous year, respectively.

Meanwhile, total employment decreased over the month by 5,000 (-0.04%) in September to 11.39 million, moreover, it also decreased by 20,000 (-0.18%) when compared with that of the previous year.

Employment in agriculture and the industrial sector decreased by 14,000(-2.56%) and 12,000(-0.30%) respectively; however, the services sector increased by 6,000(+0.08%) in September, when compared with that of the previous year.

Labour force participation rate declined by 0.12% to 59.17% in September; however, it rose by 0.24% from that of the previous year.
