Taiwan – Seasonally adjusted jobless rate up slightly in June

Taiwan’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 4.80% in June 2021, up by 0.84% when compared to the same period last year according to data from the Directorate General of Budget Accounting and Statistics.

Month-on-month, the unemployment rate rose by 0.69% to 4.80% in June while the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate also rose by 0.61% to 4.76%.

The number of unemployed persons was 570,000 in June, an increase of 81,000 (16.55%) and 97,000 (20.52%) from the previous month and that of the previous year, respectively.

Meanwhile, total employment decreased by 97,000 (-0.85%) in June to 11.30 million, while it also decreased by 176,000 (-1.53%) when compared with that of the previous year.

Compared with that of the previous year, employment in agriculture, the good-producing sector and the services-providing sector decreased by 5,000 (-0.93%), 38,000 (-0.93%) and 133,000 (-1.94%) in June, respectively.

The country’s labour force participation rate declined by 0.06% to 58.76% in June; moreover, it also declined by 0.31% from that of the previous year.
