South Korea – Number of temporary employees up 7.8%

The number of temporary employees in South Korea was 4.87 million in July 2021, up 7.8% when compared to the same period last year, according to data published by Statistics Korea.

When compared to the previous month, the number of temporary employees in South Korea increased by 0.2% in July 2020.

Statistics Korea also published labour market figures for July 2021. The unemployment rate stood at 3.2% in July, down 0.8%, year-on-year.

The number of unemployed persons totaled 920,000 people in July, which decreased 218,000 persons or 19.2%, year-on-year.

The number of employed persons totaled 27.648 million persons in July, which went up 542,000 persons or 2.0% year-on-year.

The electricity, transport, communication & finance sector saw the biggest increase in employed persons (up 6.2% over the year.)

The economically active population marked 28.56 million persons in July which grew 325,000 persons or 1.1% year-on-year.

The labour force participation rate stood at 63.4% in July, up 0.3%.
