Singapore – January’s seasonally adjusted jobless rate sees slight monthly decline

Singapore’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 3.2% in January 2021, down 0.1% from December 2020, according to the Ministry of Manpower’s monthly employment report.

For residents (Singapore citizens and permanent residents), the unemployment rate fell from 4.4% to 4.3%. The rate was unchanged for citizens alone (4.5%).

The Ministry’s data showed 101,900 residents were unemployed in January 2021, including 89,300 citizens.

According to the Ministry, the unemployment rates in 2020 were consistently higher than in 2019. The annual average unemployment rates in 2020 rose in comparison with 2019, increasing from 2.3% to 3.0%. The resident rate rose from 3.1% to 4.1% and the citizen rate rose from 3.3% to 4.2%.
