Quess Corp sees $36 million tax demand reduced to $16.9 million following appeal

02 January 2024

Indian staffing firm Quess Corp announced it has received a rectification order from the Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax, reducing the original demand of INR 3 billion (USD 36.0 million) for the assessment year 2019-2020 to INR 1.41 billion (USD 16.9 million).

The company had filed an appeal before the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal against the earlier Assessment Order.

Quess Corp first announced it had received the $36 million tax demand in October 2023 but claimed the assessing officer did not appropriately adjust tax deducted at source due to technical issues on the income tax department's portal.

In November 2023, Quess Corp reported revenue of INR 47.48 billion (USD 570.4 million) for the second quarter period ended 30 September 2022, up 11% compared to the prior year period.
