Malaysia – Majority of workers want to continue working from home after pandemic: Randstad

17 August 2021

The majority, or 69%, of workers in Malaysia prefer to continue working from home until the Covid-19 vaccine has been widely distributed, according to a survey from Randstad Malaysia.

More than 7 in 10, (or 73%), of respondents said they would feel unsafe in their workplace until others around them are fully inoculated against Covid-19.

Meanwhile, of the survey respondents who were working on-site amid the pandemic, 55% said they felt continuously at risk of Covid-19. More than half, or 59%, of respondents saw their productivity levels suffer as they were perpetually stressed about getting infected with Covid-19 at their workplace and compromising the health of their loved ones.

Despite their concerns, 47% of those surveyed in Malaysia said that their employers have provided them incentives to get vaccinated against Covid-19.

Despite the potential health and safety implications and sharp spikes in the number of Covid-19 cases in Malaysia, 64% of respondents said that their employers would like them to work on-site. However, 49% of survey respondents agreed that their job cannot be performed remotely.

According to Randstad, employers should strengthen their workforce’s herd immunity by actively encouraging workers who are able to do so to take the vaccine.

“At the minimum, companies should implement stringent health and safety procedures and allow those who are able to work from home to do so,” Randstad stated.
