Japan – Dip Corp. sends complaint over Indeed’s TV, YouTube ads

22 February 2021

DIP Corp. (2379:TYO) announced in a regulatory filing that it sent a warning letter to job aggregator Indeed, owned by Japan-based staffing giant Recruit Co. Ltd. (6098:TYO), saying there were exaggerations in video commercials released by Indeed on both television and YouTube. Tokyo based DIP Corp, the 8th largest online job advertising firm globally according to SIA’s Online Job Advertising 2020 report, said the commercials violated Japanese law.

Indeed agreed to discontinue the commercials on 20 February, according to DIP Corp.

However, in a letter sent on Monday DIP Corp also said it called for Indeed to make a public announcement to consumers and issue an apology.

The allegations stem from comments that Indeed users can search information at any job-search website in one place. However, DIP Corp argued it was not capable of searching the major Japanese job sites that it operates such as Baitoru, Baitoru Next and Hararako.net. The commercials were first broadcast on 15 February.
