Asia Pacific – Over half of workers open to new roles, study finds

10 November 2021

More than half, or 54%, of the workforce across the Asia Pacific region is either considering or actively looking for new roles, according to research from human capital management technology company Ceridian.

The survey included respondents from the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, New Zealand, and Australia.

Broken down by age, 67% of APAC employees aged 18-34 are considering or actively looking for new roles.

Meanwhile, 75% of the labour force in APAC is working overtime each week, while 50% are being paid for it.

The research also found that 27% of workers are not sure of their basic working conditions, such as award entitlements, minimum wages and classifications, penalty rates, ordinary hours, allowances, and breaks.

When asked about their overall salary packages, APAC employees ranked flexible policies (38%) as their most valued employee perk and non-cash benefit.

The research showed employees want tailored, connected, and on-demand employee experiences. This includes access to earned wages outside of traditional pay cycles. While 13% of employees currently have access to their pay on-demand, over half of workers (53%) would like to have this emerging benefit made available to them.
