France

France is one of the oldest staffing markets in Europe, and the third largest market in terms of size (by sales). Some of the earliest French firms (Bis, Adia) were at the heart of mergers that resulted in the creation of today’s major global players (Randstad, Adecco, respectively).

The French staffing market is quite heavily regulated in comparison to other countries. However, in recent years, the implementation of the European Agency Work Directive has resulted in the lifting of many market restrictions. The association representing the interests of the staffing industry, Prism'emploi, provides monthly data on market growth.

France is the second largest economy in Europe, after Germany. France is known for its state-interventionist type of economy or state-managed capitalism. However, European integration, international liberalisation and economic globalisation have also influenced the French socioeconomic system.
