TrueBlue Inc. (NYSE: TBI) promoted President and COO Patrick Beharelle to the role of president and CEO effective Sept. 1. Beharelle will also become a member of the board. TrueBlue is the 10th-largest US staffing firm and the third-largest industrial staffing firm in the US, according to Staffing Industry Analysts.

He replaces Steven Cooper in the CEO role, who will go on to serve as executive chairman, taking over from Joe Sambataro Jr., who will remain on the board. The news comes as TrueBlue also announced earnings today for the second quarter with revenue up 0.7%; the company also reported it tapped former Aon Hewitt CEO Kristi Savacool to serve on its board.

Beharelle has served as president and COO at TrueBlue since 2015, leading the company’s operational, business development, technology and human resource functions as well its digital transformation strategies. He joined the company in 2014 as president and COO of TrueBlue’s Outsourcing Solutions Group following TrueBlue’s $310 million acquisition of Seaton Corp., where he led the PeopleScout and Staff Management divisions as CEO from 2009 to 2014.

Beharelle will continue to focus on the company’s top strategic initiatives: digital transformation of the company’s staffing businesses and building out global RPO capabilities within the PeopleScout brand. 

Cooper, a 19-year company veteran including 12 years as CEO, led the company’s transformation from a general labor staffing business to a specialized workforce solutions provider. Under his leadership, the company has invested $1 billion in 20 acquisitions. Cooper will also retire as an executive of the company at year-end but continue to serve as chairman of the board.

“Steve, Joe and the full board have been actively engaged in creating and executing a robust succession planning process over the last several years,” Lead Independent Director Jeffrey Sakaguchi said. “As a result, we have a strong board and management leadership team in place ready to support Patrick in his new role.”

Staffing Industry Analysts inducted Beharelle into the Staffing 100 Hall of Fame this year, while Cooper was inducted with the inaugural class last year.

TrueBlue also discussed new board member Savacool, who retired from her position as CEO of Aon Hewitt in January. Savacool played a role in the sale of Aon Hewitt’s RPO business to TrueBlue in 2016. She also held a career at The Boeing Co. before joining Aon Hewitt.
