UK – Most employees are stressed about money, study finds

27 June 2019

The majority, or 70%, of UK employees are stressed about money while 19% are completely satisfied with their compensation, according to a report by software firm Ceridian.

The report explored what UK employees think about their compensation and payroll experiences. It found that 42% of workers describe themselves as feeling moderately, very or extremely stressed about pay and money issues on a regular basis.

Meanwhile, 26% of workers are completely satisfied when it comes to transparency of information about their pay. Furthermore, 31% of employees strongly agree to being paid fairly based on industry standards.

One in three respondents said they believe their employers do not care about their financial wellbeing, and 18% believe they care “very much.” The report also found that respondents said for any large, unexpected expenses, they would have to resort to their credit card (23%) or borrow money from family and friends (11%).

“In a diverse and competitive labour market, employee wellness programmes can’t remain static, they should evolve to meet the needs of today’s employees who are increasingly burdened by financial pressures,” Ross Tracey, Managing Director, Ceridian Europe, said. “Today’s progressive employers should implement actionable financial wellness strategies into their benefits programmes to win top talent and retain their current workforce.”
