Switzerland – Unemployment rate falls in July

The Swiss-registered unemployment rate stood at 2.1% in July 2019, down from 2.4% in July 2018, according to figures from the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs.

Figures from SECO showed that when compared with the same month of the previous year, unemployment fell by 8,474 (-8.0%).

A total of 97,578 unemployed persons were registered in July, 356 fewer than in the previous month.

At the same time, a total of 171,280 jobseekers were registered, 480 more than in the previous month. Compared to the same period in the last year, this number fell by 8,577 persons (-4.8%). 

Youth unemployment (aged 15-24) increased by 1,067 persons (10.9%) to 10,829. Compared to the same month of the previous year, this represents a decrease of 978 persons (-8.3%).

Meanwhile, the number of unemployed aged 50-64 decreased by 485 persons (-1.7%) to 27,616, month-to-month. Compared to the same month of the previous year, this corresponds to a decrease of 2,710 persons (-8.9%).
