Staffing firms in India see uptick in hiring tech talent for GCCs

08 May 2024

Staffing firms and job boards in India have observed a significant increase in the hiring of tech talent by Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in India, reports the Times of India, citing research from Careernet. The data showed the proportion of tech talent at GCCs is at least 55% of the total talent base. This trend has been particularly evident since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI) sector, around 285,000 out of 475,000 employees at GCCs are engaged in tech roles. Other sectors, such as healthcare, pharmaceutical, energy, and retail, have also seen a surge in tech hiring, with 55% of their 640,000 GCC employees now in tech roles.

GCCs are increasingly focusing on developing technology in India and are expanding their presence to smaller cities to tap into the local tech talent pool. According to Foundit's CEO, Sekhar Garisa, one in five GCCs are now located in these smaller cities, a significant increase from a few years ago. Kapil Joshi, CEO of IT staffing at Quess, highlights that GCCs are hiring in areas such as autonomous cars, hydrogen fuel, big data, virtual reality, and augmented reality across various sectors.
