Switzerland – Temporary hour increase in double digits for the first time in history

29 March 2018

In the three months to February 2018, the number of hours worked by temporary workers rose by 9.6% compared to the same period of the previous year, according to Swiss Staffing, the Swiss Federation for staffing companies.

Swiss Staffing’s figures also showed that year-to-date growth for temporary workers’ hours currently stands at 11.4%. This is the first time in Swiss Staffing history that growth has reached double digits.

Marius Osterfeld, Economist at Swiss Staffing, commented, “When looking at the Swiss Staffingindex, however, there is a question. How can monthly growth rates be lower than year-to-date growth? The reason is simple: The monthly values of the Swiss Staffing index are not adjusted retroactively. In the month of January 2018, however, an above-average number of service hours were charged, which are taken into account in the calculation of the year-to-date.”
