Switzerland – Jobseeker confidence rises 13% in Q2: PageGroup

31 July 2019

Swiss candidates’ overall confidence about their ability to find a new job within three months grew by 13% between Q2 2018 and Q2 2019, according to the PageGroup Job Confidence Index.

According to the PageGroup Confidence Index of jobseekers, 51% of candidates expect to find a job within three months. Confidence on this measure was significantly higher in the Suisse Romande (French-speaking) region (57%) than in the German speaking region of Switzerland (42%).

Candidates’ overall confidence about their professional future reached 59% in Q2. This is the highest level since the Index began in 2014.

Less than half, or 44%, expected their salary levels to increase over the next 12 months, a slight decline (-2%) between Q2 2018 and Q2 2019. Salaries were not the main factor in candidates’ search for a new role.

The index also found that 66% of candidates cited skills and professional development as the key reason for seeking another job. Within this group, 78% advised that they would consider interim work to enrich their skills and experience.

The three key determinants in choosing a new job were: the relationship with colleagues and superiors (97%), work-life balance (85%) and access to training (83%).
