The economic crisis has created an environment of total change and
re-structuring in the Swiss marketplace. "Many companies find it difficult to make long term HR decisions due to the uncertainties of market development and future outlook for the economy. The only thing that is certain is that something needs to be done and quickly. Interim managers can provide international know-how, act quickly and their involvement is limited to the duration of their task" Daniela Zimmer, of Resources Global Professionals, told Handelszeitung.

Martin Schneider, CEO of Zurich-based interim management agency Brainforce said "many companies find themselves in difficulty at the moment. They make a conscious decision to hire interim managers for change management,
re-structuring and delicate situations. A year ago most interim managers worked on new projects, at the moment they work as crisis managers, change managers and controllers."

"However, many interim management agencies are simply not good enough to meet the current challenges. In the previous boom years many me-too agencies have started up in the market because they wanted to make easy money at the expense of quality. In the current challenging times some of these people will go out of business and we will see further consolidation in Switzerland."

Hans-Peter Luthi of the Swiss Association of Interim Management (DSIM) comments "the Swiss market for interim management will continue to grow. The current economic crisis accelerates this growth. Companies think more in terms of projects and for that you need specialist interim project managers. However, experience matters. Highly qualified but inexperienced individuals will in this current market not find a job as interim managers."
