State law takes aim at healthcare staffing firms (New Hampshire Bulletin)

August 17, 2023

A New Hampshire law targeting healthcare staffing firms may help, but it won’t solve healthcare facilities’ rising staffing costs, the New Hampshire Bulletin reported. The law puts in place several measures, although it does not cap what staffing firms can charge, the publication reported.

The legislation, SB 149, was signed into law by Gov. Chris Sununu on Aug. 8, according to the governor’s office. The legislation prohibits staffing firms from double-booking nurse or nurse assistants, recruiting potential employees on the premises of a healthcare facility and charging healthcare facilities a higher amount based on the presence of a communicable virus except in the case of a state or local declaration of a public health emergency. Firms may also not place a clinician whose license is suspended. In addition, the legislation has a licensing requirement for firms starting Jan. 1, 2024.
