The US Department of Justice and IT staffing provider Frank Recruitment Group reached a settlement over allegations the staffing firm excluded individuals who were not US citizens, the department reported March 27.

An investigation found the company published online job advertisements that included language that unlawfully restricted eligibility to US citizens and permanent residents, according to the department.

“Employers cannot unlawfully discriminate against individuals granted asylum or refugee status in hiring,” Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division said in a press release. “The department will continue to hold employers accountable for imposing barriers to employment based on citizenship status in violation of our nation’s civil rights laws.”

Frank Recruitment will pay $100,000 in civil penalties under the settlement, according to the department. It also agreed to train employees, update its policies and be subject to monitoring by the department.

The company has been contacted for comment.
