PEO TriNet prevails in court as judge throws out investor’s lawsuit

December 20, 2017

A judge has thrown out a securities lawsuit against professional employer organization TriNet (NYSE: TNET). Judge Beth Labson Freeman of the US District Court for the Northern District of California dismissed the suit in an order on Monday.

Plaintiff Howard Welgus had filed the lawsuit on Aug. 7, 2015, following TriNet’s initial public offering in March 27, 2014; it sought class-action status. The lawsuit claimed the company misrepresented or failed to disclose facts relating to alleged trends affecting health insurance and workers’ compensation claims.

“We are gratified that the court recognized that the allegations in the lawsuit failed in every respect and deserved to be dismissed,” TriNet President and CEO Burton Goldfield said in a statement. “This lawsuit was wholly without merit and should never have been filed, and the court got it right by entering judgment in TriNet’s favor.”

Plaintiff has until Jan. 17 to file an appeal.
