Online job ads rise in April, food prep and serving lead increase

May 04, 2016

US online job ads rose by 39,600 in April to approximately 5.17 million, offsetting a small loss in March, according to The Conference Board’s report on online job ads.

“With employer demand showing little change since April 2015, the unemployment levels have now also flattened over the past six months,” said Gad Levanon, chief economist, North America, at The Conference Board. “While both labor demand and unemployment levels remain in healthy ranges, we are now seeing a pause in the pattern of continued monthly improvements for these indicators that have been characteristic of the past few years.”

In April, eight of the 10 largest online job categories posted increases.

Food preparation and serving ads posted the largest increase, up 12,000 to a total of 268,400, followed by office and administrative support ads, which rose by 11,800 to 559,800.

Sales and related ads posted the largest loss, down by 15,600 to a total of 541,300. Transportation and material moving ads fell by 12,000 to a total of 377,700.
