Indeed acquires Resume.com

May 29, 2018

Jobs website Indeed acquired Resume.com, an online service for creating personalized résumés.

The transaction closed May 25; terms were not disclosed. Indeed will maintain the company as a separate entity under Resume.com.

Founded in 2014, Resume.com provides tools to help job seekers build and customize résumés . Prior to the acquisition, Resume.com charged users a monthly fee for downloading and printing résumés; Indeed discontinued those fees as of Friday and the services are now free.

More than 3.5 million job seekers currently use the Resume.com site, creating more than 40,000 résumés weekly. Indeed will continue to operate Resume.com; its employees will join Indeed and the entity will continue to operate out of Vancouver, Canada.

Indeed, founded in 2004 and acquired by Recruit Holdings Co. Ltd.  in 2012, pioneered the job aggregation model and subsequent “pay-per-click” pricing, according to Staffing Industry Analysts’ Job Board Market Report: 2017 Update report. “Job aggregators originally helped drive traffic to traditional job boards (as it distributed their postings to a wider audience and made them easier to find),” it states. “However, Indeed eventually began allowing end clients to post jobs directly to their site (as opposed to merely aggregating job postings from other sites).”

“Resume.com provides job seekers with a vital résumé service and career tools to aid in their job search,” said Raj Mukherjee, senior VP of product at Indeed. “We’re excited to add this site to Indeed’s offerings as it aligns perfectly with our mission of helping people get jobs.”

Recruit recently agreed to acquire Glassdoor for $1.2 billion in cash, bringing further change to the job board landscape.
