Highest-paying gig economy fields include AI, blockchain and robotics fields

“Artificial intelligence – deep learning” is the most lucrative gig economy field, paying more than $115 per hour, according to research from FitSmallBusiness.com.

FitSmallBusiness.com, an online publication targeting small-business owners, analyzed publicly available data from sources including Upwork and the Freelancers Union, then gathered a variety of data, including fields where client billings grew by 200% from 2016 to 2017. Afterward, the publication compiled hourly rates of hundreds of freelancers in those skill areas from gig economy websites Upwork, Freelancer, People Per Hour, Hubstaff and Guru.

It found the 10 highest paying gig economy jobs of 2018 are:

  1. AI – deep learning: $115.06/hour
  2. Blockchain architecture: $87.05/hour
  3. Robotics: $77.46/hour
  4. Ethical hacking: $66.33/hour
  5. Cryptocurrency: $65.37/hour
  6. Amazon web services Lambda coding: $51.00/hour
  7. Virtual reality: $50.18/hour
  8. React.JS developers: $40.75/hour
  9. Final Cut Pro editors: (Apple video editing): $37.12/hour
  10. Instagram marketing: $31.23/hour

“What’s interesting to note is that the number one job on our list — Deep Learning — pays over four times the country’s median household income," said FitSmallBusiness.com Editor in Chief Eric Noe. “The average annual income for deep learning is $239,325, while the country’s median household income is $59,039. But, even if you’re a freelancer in the lowest paying gig economy job on our list — Instagram marketing — you can make a good living with an average annual income of $64,958.”
