Canadian staffing index ticks up on extra working day in February

March 22, 2016

The Canadian staffing index rose in February, following a trend of moderate year-over-year declines. The index, which measures staffing activity in Canada, rose to a reading of 97 in February, up 5% from a reading of 92 in February 2015.

The index value of 100 corresponds to the size of the industry in July 2008, when the index began.

“Throughout 2015 we observed a trend of moderate year-over-year declines in the Canadian Staffing Index,” said David Francis, research analyst at Staffing Industry Analysts. “This trend reversed course in February of 2016, with a 5% year-over-year increase in the index, though we note there was one additional working day in February of 2016 compared to the same period last year. This suggests that in February, after adjusting for working days, the level of demand for staffing services in Canada was similar to that of last year.”

Staffing Industry Analysts produces the index on behalf of the Association of Canadian Search, Employment and Staffing Services.
