Canada adds 32,700 jobs in February, ADP report finds

March 15, 2018

Canada’s employment rose by 32,700 jobs in February from January, according to the ADP Canada national employment report.

“February was a strong month for job growth in Canada,” said Ahu Yildirmaz, VP and co-head of the ADP Research Institute. “The education and healthcare industry had particularly significant growth, in fact it accounted for half of all of the jobs added this month. We also saw notable gains in trade, and construction.”

In the goods-producing sector, jobs increased by 5,200 in construction but fell in manufacturing by 3,300 and in natural resources and mining by 100.

Education and healthcare led gains in the service-providing sector, up by 16,000 jobs, followed by trade/transportation and utilities, up by 9,500. Professional/business services jobs increased by 3,200.

Leisure and hospitality jobs fell by 1,300.

The ADP Research Institute produces the report in close collaboration with Moody’s Analytics Inc. Derived from actual ADP payroll data, the report measures the change in total nonfarm payroll employment each month on a seasonally adjusted basis.
