Average US weekly wage rises 5% in Q3

The US average weekly wage rose to $1,027 in the third quarter of 2016, up 5.4% when compared with the same quarter the prior year, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported.

California’s Santa Clara County, home to Silicon Valley, again posted the highest average weekly wage among all large US county areas in the third quarter at $2,260; it also garnered the highest year-over-year increase at $186.

Clark County in Nevada reported the largest year-over-year percentage increase in average weekly wage at 12.2%.

The 10 US counties with the highest year-over-year percent increases in average weekly wage in the third quarter included:

  1. Clark, Nev.: 12.2%
  2. Manatee, Fla.: 10.7%
  3. Hillsborough, NH: 10.4%
  4. Elkhart, Ind.: 10.3%
  5. Boone, Ky.: 10.3%
  6. McLean, Ill.: 10.2%
  7. Dane, Wis.: 10.1%
  8. Middlesex, Mass.: 9.8%
  9. Washington, Ark.: 9.5%
  10. Alachua, Fla.: 9.5%

The 10 US counties in terms of highest average weekly wage in the third quarter included:

  1. Santa Clara, Calif.: $2,260
  2. San Mateo, Calif.: $2,098
  3. San Francisco, Calif.: $1,892
  4. New York, NY: $1,879
  5. Washington, DC: $1,728
  6. Suffolk, Mass.: $1,660
  7. Arlington, Va.: $1,648
  8. King, Wash.: $1,582
  9. Middlesex, Mass.: $1,555
  10. Fairfax, Va.: $1,546
