39% of women cite home offices as their ideal workplace: CareerBuilder

September 16, 2022

Women prefer working remotely, according to a new survey by CareerBuilder. Thirty-nine percent of women cite home offices as their ideal workplace. Conversely, 30% of men prefer a company-provided office.

Amongst generations, 20% of Gen Z, 35% of millennials and 44% of boomers prefer to work from home. The findings also found that 26% of employees — primarily 44% Gen Z and 30% millennials — lean more toward a non-traditional work location such as an outdoor area or patio, a co-working space with other businesses or a work-friendly café.

Additionally, 66% of employees surveyed reported they are only willing to commute a total of 30 minutes or less to work, with women and boomers most likely to note this. Another 34% are willing to commute more than half an hour, while only 7% agree to travel more than an hour.

“Back-to-office mandates are proving challenging for both the employer and the employee as cultures and values continue to shift,” CareerBuilder CMO Kristin Kelley said. “Expectations and employee needs have changed over the last two years, requiring many employers to adopt new rules for in-office attendance, meeting requests and even workday hours. To better attract and retain talent, employers have needed to adjust schedules and expectations to meet employees where they’re at, especially if retention is of utmost importance.”

The survey was conducted by The Harris Poll on behalf of CareerBuilder.
