Economic gauge loses ground

The Economic Cycle Research Institute's forward-looking gauge of the U.S. economy for the week ended Oct. 12 contracted 0.4%. The index level was 139.9, down from 140.4 in the prior week. The ECRI gauge measures weekly changes in the economy according to a leading index level.
