Patni Computer Systems Ltd. reported third-quarter revenue of $191.0 million, up 6.8 percent from revenue of $178.8 million in last year’s third quarter.

Third-quarter gross margin narrowed to 36.2 percent from 37.8 percent in the year-ago quarter. Net income dropped 40.8 percent to $17.0 million from $28.7 million a year ago.

The financial results for the most recent quarter reflect accounting changes in the wake of Patni’s acquisition by iGate Corp. (NASD: IGTE), which acquired an 82.4 percent stake in Patni in May 2011.

Patni is a provider of information technology solutions and staffing and it based in Mumbai, India. In the third quarter, the Americas accounted for 78.3 percent of the company’s revenue.
