Offshoring a concern, but IT pros still satisfied

Job security is a primary concern for information technology workers, according to Monster’s Workforce Talent survey. However, IT workers still rank as fourth most satisfied with their jobs — behind engineering, finance and healthcare professionals.

The survey found 87 percent believe that an increasing number of IT jobs are consistently being outsourced offshore, and 53 percent feel that offshore outsourcing leads to lower employee morale. Only 14 percent feel outsourcing is necessary for global business growth.

Sixty-eight percent of IT professionals believe there are IT jobs available and 42 percent are confident in finding a new job in the next 12 months, the survey found.

“While job satisfaction in the IT sector is relatively strong, it is apparent that IT employees in the U.S. are apprehensive about their job security due to the belief that outsourcing offshore is increasing,” said Jeffrey Quinn, vice president of Monster’s Global Insights.

The Monster online survey included nearly 6,000 Monster.com users and took place from Jan. 14 to Feb. 18.
