IT job postings up 83% year to date: Dice

IT job postings rose 83% year to date and were up 42% in May compared to April, according to a report released by DHI Group Inc. (NYSE: DHX), the parent company of job board Dice.

“We remain in one of the best markets for tech talent that we have ever seen,” said Art Zeile, CEO of DHI.

Growing demand for technologists at all levels has shown no signs of slowing, Zeile said. It continues to be fueled by an evolution away from legacy systems, strengthening of cybersecurity infrastructure and other ongoing digital transformation initiatives.

“It’s been unfortunate that there have been layoffs and hiring freezes at some tech firms; however, we view these announcements as corrections specific to individual organizations and not indicative of the overall tech hiring market,” he added.

Dice’s report noted that:

  • More than 1 million tech roles remain unfilled across the US
  • Fewer than 85,000 new computer science graduates are entering the workforce each year
  • Among the fastest-growing occupations in terms of volume of job postings, “software engineers” led the way with a growth of 162% since May 2021

Overall, Dice projects the second quarter to be the sixth consecutive quarter of tech job posting growth.

A separate report by Dice earlier found that average tech salaries are at an all-time high and up more than 7% year over year.
