IT job postings up 39% in third quarter; Jacksonville, Florida, posts fastest growth

IT job postings in the third quarter were up 39% year over year, according to the “Q3 Tech Job Report” from IT jobs website Dice. Compared to the third quarter of 2019, though, the number of postings was flat. Other findings in the report: Jacksonville, Florida, ranks as the market with the fastest growth in IT job postings, the “back-end developer/engineer” was the fastest-growing occupation in terms of volume of job postings and Docker Software was the fastest-growing skill.

Dice’s report also noted that, with six Texas cities experiencing growth in tech job openings, Texas continued to build its reputation as a major technology hub rivaling California. Dallas and Irving, Texas, made the top five cities for growth.

“As organizations transition to a hybrid workplace model and make a push to transform products and solutions to reflect the new environment, the need for skilled technologists will only become more acute,” Dice CEO Art Zeile said.

When comparing the third quarter to second quarter, the number of US job posting was roughly flat, down just 0.01%.
