Healthcare staffing provider Health Carousel acquired Columbus, Ohio-based Medical Staffing Options, a travel nurse staffing provider, adding scale to its existing travel nursing and allied healthcare staffing services.

The transaction closed Jan. 1; terms were not disclosed.

Medical Staffing Options President Bob Gammill will join Health Carousel’s executive team as senior VP, and the Medical Staffing Options brand will remain.

Medial Staffing Options counts 47 internal employees, more than 200 working nurses and annual 2016 revenue of $28.9 million.

Concurrently, Health Carousel announced plans to hire as many as 150 internal employees in 2017 —  including 75 sales and recruiting positions — across the Cincinnati, Dayton and Columbus markets. This is in addition to the Medical Staffing Options staff. The acquisition brings Health Carousel’s total number of internal employees to 267.

Health Carousel is the parent company of Tailored Healthcare Staffing, PassportUSA, Next Medical Staffing and now Medical Staffing Options. More than 1,000 working healthcare professionals from Health Carousel are in 38 states across the US. In addition to its Cincinnati headquarters, the company also has affiliates offices in Dayton, Ohio; Manila, Philippines; and now Columbus, Ohio.

Before the Medical Staffing Options acquisition, Staffing Industry Analysts ranked Health Carousel as the US’ third-fastest growing healthcare staffing firm and fifth-fastest growing staffing firm overall in 2016. It targets one to two deals annually, looking at firms providing travel nursing, locums, allied healthcare professionals that are at least the size of Medical Staffing Options.
