Engineering employment 4% year over year in August: TechServe Alliance

The number of engineering jobs in the US rose by 4.04% year over year in August — reflecting a total of 106,100 new engineering jobs — according to an analysis by the TechServe Alliance, a trade association representing the IT and engineering staffing and solutions industry.

On a month-over-month basis, engineering edged up edged up 0.30%, or 8,100 jobs, in August from July to a total of 2.7 million engineering workers.

The TechServe Alliance also reported the number of IT jobs in the US fell by 0.05% in August from July to approximately 5.4 million jobs. On a year-over-year basis, the number of IT jobs was up 0.19%, or 10,500 jobs.

There is plenty of demand and positions open but not enough IT professionals available to meet the needs of businesses, according to TechServe Alliance CEO Mark Roberts.

“Our members are constantly educating their clients about the necessity of making quick hiring decisions, offering competitive benefits and compensation, and being flexible on where the work is performed wherever possible,” Roberts said. “Despite the talk of recession and pockets of layoffs, it is still an employees' market in IT, with many candidates receiving multiple competing job offers.”
