Engineering job growth beats overall market: TechServe Alliance

The number of engineering jobs in the US rose 2.04% year over year in August, representing an additional 53,300 workers on a net basis, according to the TechServe Alliance, the national trade association of the IT and engineering staffing and solutions industry.

Engineering employment “continued to outperform the overall job market,” according to Mark Roberts, CEO of TechServe Alliance. However, IT job growth remains relatively slow. The number of technology jobs in the US rose 0.08% year over year in August, representing 4,300 IT workers, according to the organization.

“While ticking up slightly in August, IT employment growth continues to underperform growth (in terms) of the overall job market,” Roberts said. “Despite robust demand in many IT skill sets, the lack of qualified professionals has resulted in IT employment remaining essentially flat on a year-over-year basis.”
