World – Most workers considered major career move in 2022

26 April 2022

The majority, or 7 in 10 people, globally have contemplated a major career move this year, according to a report from the ADP Research Institute.

According to the report, the Covid-19 pandemic has put personal well-being and life outside of work into an ‘even clearer perspective’ and has strengthened the desire for greater flexibility at work, remote work options as well as a better culture at work.

The research also highlighted that workers worldwide are increasingly interested in a company’s ethics and values. Most, or 75%, of employees would consider looking for a new job if they discovered their company had an unfair gender pay gap or no diversity and inclusion policy.

At the same time, 64% of workers say they would consider looking for a new job if they are forced to go back into the office ‘unnecessarily’.

Meanwhile, 90% of workers say they feel satisfied at work but added that they could be happier still. More than half, or 61%, expect a pay rise in the next year and 76% feel prepared to ask for a pay rise.

The report also showed that 71% of workers would like more flexibility such as condensing their workweek into four days.

ADP’s report also found that 67% of workers experience stress at work at least once a week, up from 62% prior to the pandemic. More than one in ten, or 15%, say they experience stress every day at work while 53% believe their work is suffering because of poor mental health.
