05 October 2022

Most, or 84%, of tech candidates say that it is important for them to work for a company that prioritises environmental sustainability, according to a global survey of tech candidates and employers from Talent International.

At the same time, the report showed that 82% of candidates feel that businesses have an obligation to minimise their environmental impact and 91% of companies agree, however 50% of candidates feel that companies are currently not doing enough in this space.

Meanwhile, 59% of candidates say that a company’s commitment to environmental sustainability influences their decision to accept a job offer whereas 59% of companies are either neutral or disagree that their sustainability efforts have this impact.

Mark Nielsen, Global CEO Talent, said, “There is no questioning the impact of climate change and that the time for action was yesterday. We all have a part to play not only as individuals but as businesses as well. With combined action, we can deliver a more sustainable world with better outcomes for all. These insights are even more proof that strong ESG (Environmental, social, and corporate governance) strategies are crucial when going through the hiring process.”

The survey also found that 44% of companies cite that the main challenge they face with creating a sustainable future is a lack of company-wide education around personal impact whereas 63% of candidates feel that the main challenge businesses face is a lack of funding for initiatives.

Talent’s survey also found that 78% of candidates and 76% of employers agree that a company’s sustainability strategy is integral to business success.
