Tech Mahindra moves ahead with new CEO as Gurnani retires

21 December 2023

India-based IT services giant Tech Mahindra Ltd has reported managing director and CEO C.P. Gurnani retired effective 19 December 2023. Mohit Joshi, who joined Tech Mahindra from Infosys Ltd where he had served as president, will succeed him.

In March 2023, Tech Mahindra had announced Joshi as the managing director and CEO designate. He has experience in the enterprise software and consulting space and has worked with some of the largest corporations in the world to drive digital transformation, Tech Mahindra reported.

Outgoing CEO Gurnani received the CEO’s Choice Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021 from the Skoch Group and the CEOs’ Association for Inclusive India, according to the company. Gurnani was also featured in a Harvard Business School case study on Tech Mahindra and the acquisition of Satyam Computers. In a Reuters article on 18 December, Gurnani commented on AI, saying it can create more jobs than it eliminates.

Gurnani had served as CEO and managing director of Tech Mahindra since June 2009.

Gurnani is also departing shortly after Tech Mahindra announced its new gig economy platform, Populii, on 13 December 2023. Populii aims to link workers to micro jobs and serve as a crowdsourcing platform.
