View All NewsTaiwan – Unemployment rate rises in May
Taiwan’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 4.15% in May 2021 from 4.07% in May 2020, according to data from the Directorate General of Budget Accounting and Statistics.
When compared to the previous month, the unemployment rate rose by 0.04%.
The number of unemployed persons was 489,000 in May, an increase of 54,000 (12.35%) and 3,000 (0.62%) from the previous month and that of the previous year, respectively.
Total employment decreased by 126,000 (-1.09%) in May to 11,398,000 when compared to the previous month. It also decreased by 64,000(-0.56%) when compared with that of the previous year.
Compared with that of the previous year, employment in agriculture, the good-producing sector and the services-providing sector decreased by 2,000 (-0.38%), 35,000 (-0.85%) and 28,000 (-0.41%) in May, respectively.
Labour force participation rate declined by 0.33% to 58.82% in May and it declined by 0.24% from May of the previous year.
