TCS confirms 16 employees fired, 6 vendors debarred in code of conduct violations probe

15 October 2023

IT services giant Tata Consultancy Services fired 16 employees for code of conduct violations and six unnamed vendors have been debarred from doing business with TCS, the company reported in a regulatory filing on 15 October.

TCS also noted three employees have been removed from its “resource management” function. Resource management is responsible for allocation of available workers to projects and filling requirements through contractors, according to the company.

An investigation of these incidents is now complete, according to the company.

“We would like to reiterate (i) that this does not involve any fraud by or against the company and there is no financial impact; (ii) the issue relates to breach of company’s code of conduct by certain employees and vendors supplying contractors; and (iii) no key managerial person of the company has been found to be involved,” TCS wrote in its regulatory filing.

The company had launched a review after a breach of the company’s code of conduct, and some of TCS’ employees received bribes from staffing firms to employ the latter’s candidates, The Times of India newspaper reported.

Issues came to light earlier this year. In June, the company said it took action against six employees after finding that they favored certain staffing firms.

SIA has reached out to TCS for further comment.
