Rising logistics demand expected to create 10 million jobs in India by 2027 (The Business Standard)

22 September 2023

Buoyed by government policies and rising economic activity, the Indian logistics industry is poised for rapid growth and is expected to create 10 million jobs by 2027, reports The Business Standard, citing research from staffing firm TeamLease. The sector is reportedly growing at an annual rate of 12%. According to TeamLease’s report, diverse job profiles such as supply chain managers, logistics specialists, distribution managers, and warehousing have seen a significant surge in demand. Moreover, logistics having taken the shape of an organised sector, has added momentum acting as a further catalyst for industry expansion.

Balasubramanian A, Vice-President and Business Head, TeamLease Services, said, “The spurt in output has increased demand for logistics services such as transportation, warehousing, and distribution. Furthermore, shifting economic dynamics such as rising disposable incomes, lower inflation rates, and rising rural demand have sparked a nationwide consumption boom.” Balasubramanian said the increased job creation in the logistics sector is expected to result in substantial changes in industry’s skill requirements.

TeamLease added that the logistics industry is also propelled by recent industry reforms, including the government's Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, robust production figures, as well as changing consumption patterns, innovative business models such as 3PL (Third-Party Logistics) and surging rural demand.
