Philippines – Online recruitment jumps 9% in May: Monster Employment Index

Online recruitment in the Philippines increased by 9% in May 2021 when compared to May 2020, according to data from the Monster Employment Index.

The Monster Employment Index (MEI) increased to 125 in May 2021 from 115 in May 2020.

Online recruitment activity recorded an increase of 6% month-on-month. Online hiring demand in May 2021 exceeded May 2020 level in 9 of the 12 industries monitored by the Index.

Logistics, Courier/Freight/Transportation (+83%), IT, Telecom/ISP (+33%) and Advertising, MR, PR (marketing, public relations), Media & Entertainment (+25%) were the industries to mark the strongest growth among all monitored industries in May 2021 from the year-ago level.

Hospitality (-32%), Education (-17%) and Consumer Goods/ FMCG (-6%) saw the sharpest annual decline.

Among professional categories, annual online demand for professionals grew in 9 of 10 functional areas as monitored by the Index. Marketing & Communications (+39%), Purchase/ Logistics/ Supply Chain (+33%) and Sales & Business Development (+32%), reflected notable growth among all monitored functional areas in May 2021 from the year-ago level.

Hospitality & Travel (-10%) was the only functional area to notice the steepest decline among others, year-on-year.
